Notre Dame University–Louaize North Lebanon Campus (NDU-NLC), in collaboration with Shabab Loubnan, celebrated on Tuesday, November 15, 2016, Lebanon’s 73rd Independence Day at the NLC Amphitheater.
The Lebanese army band launched the event by playing the national anthem followed by NLC student Joe Nader, a representative of Shabab Loubnan at the University, who delivered a short speech. Nader praised the Lebanese army, noting the monumental role the military plays in guarding our borders and in maintaining stability across the nation.
Major George Fadel of the Lebanese Special Forces (LSF) talked about the colossal challenges faced by the army and the great role our armed forces play in keeping Lebanon safe and free.
NLC Public Relations Office and Faculty of Business Administration and Economics (FBAE) Assistant Elsie Kfoury Girgis in her welcome address warmly greeted the audience and the Lebanese army in particular, and expounded on the military’s virtues, which include honor, sacrifice, and loyalty. Kfoury also thanked the participating University clubs and students.
For his part, NLC Director Fr. Samir Ghssoub highlighted the birth of a new University club called ‘The Lebanese Army,’ which was created to help students better understand their national armed forces and to help establish friendly relations with its troops.
Renowned singer George Zayout then took to the stage to perform several songs dedicated to the Lebanese army.
Trophies on behalf of the NLC clubs were distributed to all the troops present, and a special NDU shield was presented to Major Fadel. Finally, a large cake bearing the image of our national flag was cut, and a fireworks display amid hearty cheers ended the ceremony.
